Next big Thiem?

Dominic Thiem the 22 year old from Austria has been creating headlines in the tennis tour of late. The right hander has been marked out as one to watch for a few years now but so far he has failed to catch fire. In February the young gun beat Rafael Nadal in Buenos Aires and then went onto lift the Argentine title. The following week he beat David Ferrer also on the dirt in Rio De Janeiro  Brasil before fatigue took its tole in the semi finals.

This week in Mexico at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco. Thiem made it through to the finals and defeated Bernard Tomic 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-3 to seal his fifth tour title. This was Thiems first big title, an ATP 500 event on hardcourt and he finished the month of February with a 13-1 record. This kind of form is indicative that Thiem will make the top 10 soon and start to become a player in Masters 1000 events and the big ones the Grand Slams.

It seems that we have been waiting for the next big champion for years, who would take over the mantel from the big 4 and take tennis to the next level. We have looked at guys like Milos Raonic who could still boss the game, Bernard Tomic who with his touch game adds a little gloss to the baseline grinders.  Dimitrov has long been touted as the next Federer but he has failed to dazzle full stop. Can Thiem be the next big thing?

Thiem has a strong and aggressive baseline game, comfortable in the long rallies with fantastic movement. He shows great anticipation and is comfortable at the net  . His favoured surface clay  has taught him to rally, recover difficult situations and to fight. Such skills that all champions display. At a career high ranking of 14 this week just how far can Thiem go?

Young, hungry, talented and very confident Thiem can improve enormously as he comes across the best players on the ATP tour and learns from them. His single hand backhand is also a very effective shot and can win come up with angles, power and deception. There is no doubt in my mind that Dominic Thiem can make the top 10 by the summer. I would expect a strong showing in the Spring clay court season and perhaps one or two of the Masters 1000 events.

Outsider for Roland Garros? Certainly.

There seems to be a bit of a theme this season with CASTLE, and it is international relations. First with the Russians and now, apparently, the French. Castle puts on the personna of a French national and looks to be undercover in a classroom for adults learning English as a second language. The teacher and […]

What is Lightroom’s Quick Collection?

Adobe Lightroom comes with the ability to sort your photos into collections. In fact, there’s an entire section on the left dedicated to organizing your photos in either Collection Sets, Collections, or Smart Collections. But there is also a separate collection located under the Catalog drop-down, and that is the Quick Collection.

What is the Quick Collection?

The Quick Collection is a place for you to quickly add photos that you need to grab from more than one folder in your Lightroom Catalog. It is an “easy access”, temporary location for a group of images that you will print, export, share, or create a new collection from. It starts out empty, and you can add images to it by drag-dropping them over top of the collection, or, if there is a plus icon (+) next to the name Quick Collection then you can use the keyboard shortcut B to add photos to it.

Why use the Quick Collection?

Here are a few ways that I use the Quick Collection:

  • To group photos together that I will use in a blog post or article
  • To temporarily store photos I need to export and share with someone online
  • To set aside a group of photos I will be uploading to my online portfolios

The Quick Collection is kind of a temporary holding place for photos, so I always clear it out after I am finished using it (or before I need to start a fresh group of photos). You can also save a Quick Collection as a regular Collection if you want to permanently save the grouping of photos you have created.

What is a Target Collection?

By default, Lightroom makes the Quick Collection set as the Target Collection, and is indicated by a “plus” sign (+) next to the name of the collection. This means that when you use the keyboard shortcut B you will automatically add (or remove) any photo (or group of photos) that is highlighted into that Target Collection. You can also easily set other collections as the Target Collection by right-clicking over the name of a collection and selecting “Set as Target Collection”.

3 Benefits of Lithium Ion Batteries

Lithium-ion becomes the fastest growing batteries available across a wide range of golf carts and electric vehicles. In this short post we’ll discuss 3 benefits of lithium ion batteries, including: high energy density, longevity and low rate self-discharge.

High Energy Density

The energy density of lithium-ion is typically twice that of the standard nickel-cadmium. There is potential for higher energy densities. The load characteristics are reasonably good and behave similarly to nickel-cadmium in terms of discharge. The high cell voltage of 3.6 volts allows battery pack designs with only one cell. Most of today’s mobile phones run on a single cell. A nickel-based pack would require three 1.2-volt cells connected in series.Source: http://ift.tt/1x510lD

Longevity

Longevity is the main advantage and thus greater value for money. While lead-acid batteries usually last between 12 and 18 months, our lithium products have a five-year limited warranty. Lead-acid batteries often deteriorate rapidly and are vulnerable to temperature fluctuations, especially during the winter. It’s realistic to estimate that a lead-acid battery may only deliver one season of regular golf. In contrast, Motocaddy lithiums are protected by an integrated Battery Management System and designed to handle at least five years of golf, irrespective of temperature and downtime. Low Rate of Self-discharge

One issue with batteries and cells is that they lose their charge over time. This self-discharge can be a major issue. One advantage of lithium ion cells is that their rate of self-discharge is much lower than that of other rechargeable cells such as Ni-Cad and NiMH forms. Source: http://ift.tt/1UuqBSJ
