Murray to open Davis Cup Defence

Murray to open Davis Cup defence this week

Andy Murray will take to the court this weekend for the first time after his brief paternity following the birth of his first daughter Sophie at the start of February.

Murray last played in a competitive match in the Australian Open Final against Novak Djokovic.  He will lead the British team into action in their defence of the Davis Cup against Japan. The Brits ended a seventy something year wait in November past by defeating Belgium in Ghent and retaining the trophy is something their are very keen to do. Team GB Boss Leon Smith said it was important to win the first round match as it would prevent them facing a promotion relegation playoff later on in the year. Murray Takes on world number 87 Taro Daniel in the first match at the Barclaycard Arena in Glasgow a match which the Scot should win pretty easily.

Dan Evans is next up against World Number 5 Kei Nishikori a formidable opponent for Evans who has shown glimpses of form that could take him to the top of the mens game but he has never been able to back such performances up. Nishikori on hard courts is one of the ultimate challenges in tennis and his slingshot forehand cause the very best problems.

Jamie Murray is likely to pair up with his brother Andy in the doubles but Dom Inglot is in reserve should Leon Smith deem it necessary to rest the world number 2 for his singles tie. Elsewhere in the draw Serbia with Novak Djokovic take on Kazakhstan, Switzerland face a tricky tie against Italy. Argentina play Poland, Canada play France, Germany take on the Czechs and USA will play Australia. So many juicy ties this weekend, expect the unexpected and tear up the form book!
