Photo of the day: The Ever Patient Friend

Category: Street.

Why I picked this image: Street photos always need to have a human in it, right? No! Personally I’m having a fairly loose interpretation on the “rules” of street photography. And animals can be the main subject of a good street photo for me, too. (Maybe you have seen the image from Josef Koudelka with the black dog in the snow?)

This image of man’s best friend is a typical scene that I see every day on the streets and take it for granted. It is telling a quite obvious story. The trusted friend that will always wait patiently for his human friend that he trust and defends. And he will be full of joy when his human friend comes out of the store and greet him passionately.

This is quite a strong story of friendship and trust. And Jim did a very good job in capturing it with leading lines and light guiding the eye to the dog as main subject here.

And here are some little extra details that many of you may have missed until now. The store in the background is called “The Beagle”.  And there is a human foot entering the scene in the far left of the image. And to me this opens a lot of potential stories that could happen in this scene next.

Always take time to look at images closely :)
