3 Window Treatment Ideas for Tall Windows
Beautiful large windows have huge advantages including lots of natural light and the ability to admire inspiring views from the comfort of your sofa. However, you might be wondering how you going to furnish these gorgeous windows. Check out these 3 window treatment ideas for tall windows:
Drapery
Drapery, the most traditional choice for tall windows, makes your room feel dramatic and regal.
When choosing drapery, keep in mind the scale of the room. A 2-inch diameter curtain rod will become lost on top of a 15-foot-tall window, so use bigger drapery hardware and larger pleats for your drapes so you can see the grand effect.
Personalize the drapery to match your home style by using tiebacks, patterns or valances.
Layer different materials to add interest and dimension to your drapery. You can also include different colors to match your home decor. Source: Angieslist
Roman Shades
If you need multiple roman shades to fill a wide wall of windows, make sure you choose a pattern that allows you to stack each shade next to each other so it feels like one long shade. When there are no breaks in between each shade, your window looks streamlined.
Tip: Don’t forget to hang them higher than the windows if your windows are low. When measuring the height you need for the shades, be sure to include the extra material to cover the gap between ceiling and top of the window. Source: Houzz
Top down / Bottom up Cellular
Cellular shades are a clean and modern look to consider as a tall window treatment idea. Their energy efficiency is perfect when the midday sun is streaming through your tall windows, keeping you cool inside. What is most amazing about cellular shades is that they are available in a top down/bottom up feature. The top and bottom of your shade move independently, giving you precise command of how much light is flowing into your home, preserving privacy without sacrificing natural light. Source: BlindsGalore

5 Benefits of Cold Showers
Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com
Showering is an essential part of a healthy routine, but depending on the temperature, your time spent under the water can offer different benefits for your skin and some bodily functions too. Learn about the surprising health benefits of a taking a cold shower in this article.
Increase Alertness
Taking a cold shower in the morning, and feeling cold water pour down over our body seems more horrifying than soothing. However, the deep breathing in response to our body’s shock helps us keep warm, as it’s increases our overall oxygen intake. Thus, our heart rate will also increase, releasing a rush of blood through our entire body. This gives us a natural dose of energy for the day. Source: MedicalDaily
Stimulate Weight Loss
Another way cold showers will make you look better, is by promoting fat loss.
Most people don’t know this, but there are two types of fat in your body. Brown fat & white fat. White fat is bad. It’s the body fat that we all hate so much. Brown fat is good. It’s function is to generate heat and keep your body warm.
When you take a cold shower, brown fat is activated, resulting in an increase in energy and calories burned to keep your body warm. So much so that according to this study, cold temperatures can increase brown fat by 15X the normal amount, which can result in 9 pounds of weight loss per year. Source: Menprovement
Refine Hair and Skin
If you’d like to reduce the appearance of acne, cold showers could do the job. Hot water dries out your skin, while cold water tightens your cuticles and pores, preventing them from getting clogged. You can also use cold showers for shinier, more attractive hair that your partner can’t resist playing with. Cold water will close your cuticle, making it less likely dirt can accumulate in your scalp. Source: Lifehack
Build Strong Will Power
The next day was more of the same, but I noticed I had more apprehension this time around before hopping in the shower. This trend continued throughout the following mornings as well. If I knew how great it made me feel, then why didn’t I eagerly throw myself underneath the icy spray? The experience reminded me of a famous old saying, one that has been attributed to a bunch of authors: “I don’t enjoy writing. I enjoy having written.” I don’t like taking cold showers, I just like the way they make me feel after I’ve already dried off.
The week has been a success, and I’ve assured myself that I will keep taking cold showers in the mornings. However, it won’t be easy. I mean, have you taken a hot shower? It’s the best. Source: Prevention
Strengthen Immunity
According to a study done in 1993 by the Thrombosis Research Institute in England, individuals who took daily cold showers saw an increase in the number of virus fighting white blood cells compared to individuals who took hot showers. Researchers believe that the increased metabolic rate, which results from the body’s attempt to warm itself up, activates the immune system and releases more white blood cells in response. Music Monday: Nulbarich
A relative newcomer to the Japanese music scene, Nulbarich appeared rather suddenly, and with a splash, in May of 2016 when they released their 1st single “Hometown.” The fluid 5-7 piece band, which revolves around singer and songwriter JQ, quickly followed up with their 1st album “Guess Who” 3 months later.
Released in May 2017, “It’s Who We Are” is the lead single off the group’s 1st EP
The band’s name Nulbarich is a combination of the words “null but rich” and embodies a mantra that favors spiritual enrichment over physical. And it’s part of the reason that the band members prefer to remain masked and relatively anonymous (although JQ has begun appearing in some of the music videos), placing an emphasis on their sound rather than their appearance.
JQ attributes his interest in music to early piano lessons and then to 90s hip hop but the group’s sound is grounded in soul and acid jazz-inspired funk that’s then mixed with Tokyo street culture. I hear influences from Jamiroquai but also Maroon5. Last year, just around the time Nulbarich debuted, who wrote about a band called Suchmos. If you liked them, we recommend you also give Nulbarich a listen.
Like what you hear? You can find more of their music on YouTube. Nulbarich is also on Twitter and Facebook. And be sure to check out our other Music Monday picks.

3 Ways to Childproof Windows at Home
Children’s curiosity pushes them to try out new things and explore new places. As a parent, you have to ensure their safety by childproofing your entire home. Here, you’ll find the best tips in making your windows much safer for the kids.
Securely Anchor Curtains and Drapes
When toddlers first learn to walk, they tend to use things around them to pull themselves up. This makes long drapes susceptible to tugs, and if they are not securely anchored to the wall, the result can be disastrous.
Make sure your curtain rod is securely fastened to its wall mount brackets, not just resting on them. If these brackets are not attached to studs, be sure to use hollow wall anchors. Another option is to simply switch up your décor and hang shorter drapes until your child gets a bit older. Source: Omaha
Keep the Cord Out of Reach
- Do not place any cribs, beds, or furniture close to any windows because children can climb on them and gain access to the cords.
- Make sure to make all loose cords inaccessible and keep all window cords out of the reach of children at all times. If you have tasseled pull cords short, make sure to keep them as short as possible, and permanently anchor any continuous-loop cords to the floor or wall.
- Lock cords into position when lowering horizontal coverings or shades to prevent inner-cord hazards.
- If the window shade has looped bead chains or nylon cords, install tension devices to keep the cord taut. Source: TheSpruce
Don’t Leave the Window Open
Lock your windows. Many windows have built-in locks you can latch shut with a key to prevent the window from opening. If your windows have keys built-in, this is your best option for baby proofing your windows. If your windows do not have keys, however, use another method. Installing keys is costly and time-consuming and it’s far easier to use an alternative window locking method. Source: WikiHow
We can help you pick a window treatment that isn’t just safe for your kids, but also functional and trendy. Give us a call!

Choosing a Bathroom Countertop
Content originally published and Shared from http://perfectbath.com
Choosing amongst the various types of vanity top will depend on a number of factors. Appearance and ease of maintenance are two of the main things to consider. Here are three of the best materials you can find:
Granite and Marble
In a master bath, it pays to install granite or marble, which attract buyers at resale and give the vanity top a rich, sleek look. And with affordable “grades” of granite available on the market today, you don’t have to empty your wallet for this feature. You will, of course, spend more on granite than laminate, but the result is a surface that can handle heat and wear. Be advised: granite must be sealed to repel grease (which you could run into in hair products and such). Marble stains easily, while granite stands up to most stains. Source: HGTV
Ceramic
Ceramic is another common material used in the construction of vanity tops. This material offers almost unlimited color choices and is easily cleaned and maintained. Ceramic is typically manufactured in both glazed and unglazed finishes. It is also possible to mix different colors and textures for a customized look. A grout sealer should be used for ceramic countertop applications to prevent the growth of mildew. Source: WiseGeek
Manufactured Quartz
Manufactured quartz is one of the most popular options for countertops of all types, including bathroom vanities. It looks similar to a natural stone, like limestone, granite, or marble, but it is more durable and better equipped to resist stains and scratching. Quartz is actually a synthetic composite, comprised of about ninety percent quartz particles. It can be ordered in a range of colors and customizable thickness options, and it is a great choice if you want a unique or customized vanity edge. Source: Ebay

Kamron Doyle On His Decision to Forgo Returning to Wichita State University and Join the PBA Tour
Recently, Kamron Doyle made his decision to forgo returning to Wichita State University in favor of joining the PBA Tour public. When he made the decision, he knew that he would likely be met with some criticism, however, what has followed has surpassed any expectations he had.
His decision has been met with criticism, hate, personal and professional attacks, and some of the most ignorant, disgusting comments I have personally ever read.
To this point, Kamron has stayed out of it and avoided his doubters and haters criticism, which I cannot commend him enough for, honestly. But I decided to reach out to him via text and ask him if he would be interested in sharing his side of the story with us and defending his decision a bit. And he gladly agreed.
First off, let me say this: Kamron has absolutely zero reason to defend his own, personal decision to go out on tour. It is, as I said, a personal one. But I felt like he needed to let his side of the story at least be heard.
The passages that follow come directly from Kamron, himself:
At the end of the day, this is a personal decision I made to improve my overall happiness. Nothing more, nothing less. College bowling wasn’t for me. It is that simple. Some people love it, and I can understand why. It is a unique and interesting experience; there truly is nothing else like it.
But, as I said, it was not for me.
I didn’t feel that I improved at all in my time at Wichita and bowling collegiately. I felt my overall performances were not up to my immensely high standards. And because of that, my happiness was decreasing rapidly.
I didn’t see eye-to-eye with the coaching staff on a lot of things. I felt like our conversations were counter-productive because of this. That doesn’t mean that I feel I was right or that they were wrong. It wasn’t a black and white situation. We just didn’t see bowling the same. And that made it difficult.
Again, I want to emphasize that I am not trying to cast or deflect any blame. It was just one of those cases where we weren’t on the same page. Sometimes that happens. This was one of those cases.
Another thing I struggled with was the lack of time given to each and every bowler. College bowling is growing rapidly. Therefore, college programs are growing rapidly, as well. And I feel like the coaches are under a great deal of pressure to ensure that they are there to help each and every kid. Unfortunately, though, there are significantly more kids than there are coaches, so the time allotted to each bowler is minimal at best.
Kids decide to go to college and bowl collegiately in hopes of getting better; they are not there to remain stagnant. Ever collegiate bowler’s hope is that they leave the program better than they were when they entered it. And like I said before, I didn’t necessarily feel like I was on track to accomplish that.
But this decision came down to more than just bowling, the bowling program, and my personal distaste for collegiate bowling. It was all about my happiness.
I was just not happy at Wichita State. I wasn’t happy being away from friends and family. I wasn’t happy with my bowling. I missed singles competition. I didn’t enjoy the atmosphere that college bowling offered. And I had to make a decision to better my mental health and my overall happiness; I couldn’t stand to be miserable any longer.
At the end of the day, happiness was the biggest factor in all of this. I didn’t mind the city, I didn’t mind the school, I don’t dislike college, I didn’t dislike my teammates. It had nothing to do with any of the things people seem to be speculating on. It simply came down to me being unhappy. And that wasn’t the way I wanted to live my life. Period.
I don’t consider myself some college dropout, that many of my critics seem to be labeling me. I still intend on getting my degree. I still intend on going to college. I’m just not going to bowl collegiately.
I want to take my talents to the next level. I want to bowl my best against the best. I want to compete at the highest level against the highest level of competition.
All of this factored into my decision to join the PBA Tour.

The Thankless Job of a Bowling Center Proprietor
More and more often now – everywhere, not just in bowling, obviously – I am seeing more and more negativity. It seems like every night I am seeing bowlers complain about their center — the center they choose to bowl league at.
Whether it’s the pattern used, the center’s topography, or the “environment” in which they’re playing, bowlers seem to find something to gripe about. And it is a shame.
I am very fortunate. I run a shop at one of the best centers I have ever been to. Our proprietor is top notch, and makes sure that her establishment is, as well. I have never been to a center that does more routine maintenance and inspections than here, at Batt Family Fun Center, located in Jacksonville, Florida.
It really is just done correctly here. And I truly appreciate that.
But still, even here, in what I consider one of the best run centers in the state – if not the country – I still see people complain that it isn’t up to their, the bowlers, standards.
And I am not really sure what more could be done. The staff here already goes above and beyond what is required, in my book.
All that being said, though, I am not the only one that bowls/works in a great facility with a great proprietor obviously; they’re located all over the country. Sure, there are some centers that haven’t aged well. I get it. And yes, you may, on occasion, run into a bad proprietor here and there. It happens somtimes. I get it. Trust me.
But for every “bad center” or “bad proprietor” there are two or three good ones.
And those good centers and good proprietors deserve some respect and some credit for what they do to keep their center running the way that it does. It isn’t easy. And, unfortunately, more often than not, they don’t get it.
It is sort of like that old saying: “When I do right, no one remembers; when I do wrong, no one forgets.”
I cannot tell you how many amazing things my local center has done over the past few years to improve their standing with both league bowlers and open play bowlers, alike. They’ve installed more lanes, they have improved their arcade, they’ve added minigolf and laser tag, they’ve bought a flex machine. They change the pattern every year, giving the bowlers a new challenge and opportunity to grow and get better. And, still, to this day, they continue to try and improve the facility. Literally, almost every day, they get together and ask themselves”what more can we do?” Or, “how can we get better?”
But still, for the most part, I see no love. I see no appreciation. And worst of all, I still, from time-to-time, see complaints. Even though I can tell you with the utmost confidence that I have been to a lot of centers in my career, and I haven’t seen much better anywhere around the country. Not from a proprietary and staff standpoint.
But that isn’t just here, I’m sure. I can almost guarantee you that this is how it is all over the country. Good centers and good proprietors are too often taken for granted. And that isn’t fair, because honestly, that isn’t always the case, as I said earlier.
So do me a favor, please. If you bowl at a great center or know a terrific proprietor, please tag them and their center’s business page in the comments below. Or share this page article and tag them in a post. Spread the word that they run a top notch facility and let them know that they’re doing a great job, because, trust me, they don’t here it enough.

The Duality of Yoshitoshi Kanemaki’s Wooden Sculptures
Japanese sculptor Yoshitoshi Kanemaki wants you to know that the world is more complicated than we can ever comprehend. He creates works that guide us towards an understanding that there are competing goods in this world; two sides that can never fully be reconciled.
Based in Chiba, Kanemaki carves small, disturbing forms that allure to the duality he finds. “Looking deep into the world in which we live, we realize that everyone holds hesitations or contradictions that can never be reconciled,” he says. And so he attempts to project those emotions onto his sculptures, which he carves out of single blocks of hinoki wood.
The sculptures often have 2 or more faces that oppose but also converge. And even if you can’t identify with Kanemaki’s rather dark views, you can certainly appreciate the technique and skill that goes into carving these forms. And over on his portfolio site he shares process shots so you can see, step-by-step, how the forms emerge.
