LOS ANGELES, CA (January 11, 2016) — IMG today announced that American tennis star Sloane Stephens has signed a worldwide marketing and management agreement with the company.
“I think that what IMG has achieved over the last two years is really dynamic and I am excited to join the company that has expertise across so many different platforms,” said Stephens. “While
my main focus is winning on the tennis court, I have various interests and I know that my new team at IMG will help me achieve business results and maximize my talent.”
One of the most charismatic and talented players of the next generation, Stephens gained notoriety in 2013 by defeating Serena Williams at the Australian Open and becoming the first
American teenager since 2001 to reach the second week of a Grand Slam. The 22-year-old from Florida reached a career-high ranking of World No.11 in October 2013 and won her inaugural WTA tournament in 2015. She started off the 2016 season by winning her second WTA title inAuckland, New Zealand.
“Sloane possesses enormous talent and charisma, a unique combination that, along with tennis results, will help her transcend the sport. We’ve put together a great team around Sloane, whose
expertise across various verticals will help her leave a mark on the sport,’’ said Fernando Soler, head of IMG’s tennis division.
Since WME’s acquisition of IMG in 2014, the tennis division has enjoyed great momentum, adding some of the game’s most exciting stars to its roster, including Victoria Azarenka, Genie
Bouchard, Petra Kvitova, Nick Kyrgios, Agnieszka Radwanska, JackSock, Kevin Anderson and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The company’s female tennis clients have won seven out of the eight Grand
Slam titles during the 2014 and 2015 seasons (Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Li Na and Petra Kvitova), and World No.1 Novak Djokovic captured five of the last six Grand Slams and
four consecutive ATP World Tour Finals titles.
